May 2008: Professor John Jackson has been elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as part of the Class of 2008.

April 2008: Professor and Assistant Dean for the Social Sciences Meredith Jung-En Woo will soon be departing the University of Michigan. Meredith has been named as the new Dean of the College and Graduate School of Art & Sciences at the University of Virginia, effective 1 June 2008.

April 2008: Michigan Ph.D. Khristina Haddad, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Moravian College, has been selected by the Moravian student body to deliver the 2008 commencement address on Saturday, May 10.

April 2008: Professor Ashutosh Varshney has been named a 2008 recipient of the Guggenhein Fellowship Award. Professor Varshney has also been named a 2008 Carnegie Scholar.

September 2007: The Department welcomes Pamela Brandwein, Walter Mebane, Robert Salmond, Allan Stam, and George Tsebelis as new tenured and tenure-track faculty. We also welcome Neve Gordon, visiting us for the year from Ben-Guron University, lecturers Debra Horner and Peter Osetek, and visiting scholars Walter Hill and Sara Watson.

August 2007: The doctoral dissertation completed by Melynda Price, PhD has been named "Best Dissertation" by the Race, Ethnicity, and Politics section of the American Political Science Association.

4 July 2007: Professor Andy Markovits was bestowed an honorary doctorate -- Dr. phil. honoris causa -- by the Leuphana University of Lueneburg in Germany on the Fourth of July 2007.

20 May 2007: Professor Emeritus J. David Singer will receive an honorary degree from Binghamton University during their spring commencement exercises.

May 2007: The Jack L. Walker Outstanding Article Award for 2007 given by the Section in Political Organizations and Parties of the American Political Science Association has been awarded to Professor Rick Hall and UM Economics Professor Alan Deardorff for their article "Lobbying as Legislative Subsidy", published in the February 2006 edition of APSR.

May 2007: Assistant Professor Jana von Stein has been named the 2007-2008 Human Rights Fellow by the university's Center for International and Comparative Studies.

7 May 2007: Professor Arthur Lupia has been named to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences as reported in the University Record. Skip will be formally received into membership at their annual induction ceremony on October 6.

28 April 2007: Political Science and Biology undergraduate Abdulrahman El-Sayed gave the student address at the Spring Commencement Exercises at Michigan Stadium.

27 April 2007: Professor Emeritus Phil Converse gave the commencement address at the Rackham Graduate School Exercises prior to his receipt of an honorary Doctor of Science degree on April 28.

15 April 2007: Professor Scott Page writes in the Ann Arbor News on the new "Blueprint for Admissions", UM's response to last fall's successful Michigan Proposal 2 banning affirmative action in higher ed admissions in the state.

5 April 2007: Professor Arthur Lupia is named a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship recipient for 2007.

16 March 2007: Professor Andrei Markovits has been named the winner of the 17th-annual Golden Apple Award, presented each year by SHOUT: Students Honoring Outstanding University Teaching, to the "best professor on campus".
