Research Interests:


Jowei Chen's research examines the electoral geography of distributive politics. His work examines the targeting of federal government spending to partisan supporters and campaign contributers in the United States . He has also studied how the geography of electoral institutions alters the distribution of pork barreling by state legislatures. Finally, his research analyzes the effects of government cash transfers on the election-day behavior of different groups of voters.

Jowei moved to Michigan in 2009 after finishing graduate school at Stanford. He is a native of southeastern Tennessee.
