Research Interests:


Professor Campbell is interested in how policies change from agenda-setting through implementation, and on the relationship between politics and substantive public policy. He works mostly on Japan, often in comparative perspective, these days mainly about social policy including health care and Japan’s new public, mandatory long-term-care insurance system. Currently he is following up on an old avocation by directing a project of secondary data analysis called “Losing Faith in Politics? Trends in Citizen Attitudes and Behavior in Japan and the United States.” Other interests include the auto industry, US-Japan relations, and organization theory.
